ಆರೂ ಇಲ್ಲದ ಅರಣ್ಯದೊಳಗೆ ಮನೆಯ ಕಟ್ಟಿದರೆ,
ಕಾಡುಗಿಚ್ಚು ಎದ್ದುಬಂದು ಹತ್ತಿತ್ತಲ್ಲಾ!
ಆ ಉರಿಯೊಳಗೆ ಮನೆ ಬೇವಲ್ಲಿ,
ಮನೆಯೊಡೆಯನೆತ್ತ ಹೋದನೊ?
ಆ ಉರಿಯೊಳಗೆ ಬೆಂದ ಮನೆ,
ಚೇಗೆಯಾಗುದದ ಕಂಡು,
ಮನೆಯೊಡೆಯನಳಲುತ್ತ ಬಳಲುತ್ತೈದಾನೆ.
ಗುಹೇಶ್ವರಾ, ನಿಮ್ಮ ಒಲವಿಲ್ಲದ ಠಾವ ಕಂಡು,
ಮನದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಸಿ ತೊಲಗಿದೆನಯ್ಯಾ.

Transliteration:
Aaroo illada aranyadolage Maneya kattidare,
Kaadugichchu eddubandu hattittalla!
Aa uriyolage mane bevalli,
Maneyodeyanetta hodano?
Aa uriyolage benda mane,
Chegeyaduda kandu,
Maneyodeyanalalutta balaluttaidaanai.
Guheshwara, nimma olavillada thava kandu,
Manadalli hesi tolagidenayya.

Translation:
When building a house in the deserted wilderness,
Alas! The forest fire erupted and engulfed it!
While the house burnt in that fire,
Where did the master of the house go?
Finding that the house though burnt in that fire, was not destroyed,
The master of the house is wailing and tired!
Oh Guheswara, finding that this place is without your love,
I got disgusted and left it, Sir!”
